Pardons and Commutations of Jail Sentences by Governor Theodore
Roosevelt, New York, 1899. 24 page booklet reprinted from
the original state records book Covers about 50 people, one pardon was
because the clerk recorded the sentence as Grand Larceny rather than Petit
Larceny. Another pardons the conviction of a "colored man" who was
never identified to the satisfaction of the district attorney. Fascinating
look at criminal justice over 100 years ago, but also reads like today's
newspaper. Price $7.50. Contact bruce@ancestorinfo.com.
